Earlier this month, thousands of dedicated supporters of the new health care law (just like you!) signed the petition calling on State legislators to pass important implementation bills that would improve insurance regulation here in California.

But now the high-powered insurance company lobbyists are mounting a major counter-attack in a desperate effort to undermine and weaken the new law.

They've set their eyes on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in order to influence State Insurance Commissioners from across the country to weaken the new law. As you already know, the NAIC has been tasked with making recommendations on insurance company regulations to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

That's why we need your help!

Take a stand against insurance industry lobbyists by calling California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and telling him you support tough regulations that make our health care affordable and that hold the insurance industry accountable!

The insurance industry fought tooth and nail to oppose the new health care law, and even though the majority of Californians support it, they're desperate for any opportunity to weaken the new law. That's why insurance industry lobbyists are targeting the NAIC. They know that tougher regulations will end "business as usual" - which means they can no longer impose outrageous rate-hikes, deny us our care or take advantage of working California families any longer!

Now is a critical time.  The detailed rules and regulations written in the upcoming months will determine whether or not the new law fulfills its promise to the American people -- and the insurance companies know it.

Last week, Health Care for America Now (HCAN) held a press conference with Senator Al Franken (MN) to shine a light on the need for regulations.  HCAN released a report on how insurance premium rules will control costs for businesses and families.

The insurance companies are determined to subvert reform every step of the way.

We have to tell the NAIC and show HHS that we want strong regulations that keep down costs and hold the insurance companies accountable.
