Volunteer Opportunites
Can you spend two or five or ten hours a week to make change happen? We need all kinds of volunteers: people who bring a specific skill set as well as people who can fit in to a number of roles. There are a few that are in particular need and they are starred. Our goal is to find a role for each and every person who attends this event!
Operations Team Leads
* Political Partnering. We're looking for volunteers who have worked in a legislative office, who have had experience in political campaigning or are connected at the party level.
* Volunteer Coordinator. We need a person who can make a larger time commitment to work with other team members to coordinate volunteer recruitment, placement and retention.
Fundraising/Grantwriting. We need help from someone who has experience in Development and/or has particular skills in direct fund raising or grant writing.
Member Communications. We plan to add customer-relationship management ("CRM") capabilities to our web site. This will allow us to communicate more effectively with our members, helping us keep track of individuals' interests and providing them the information most relevant to them. We're looking for someone to coordinate this effort.
Public Relations/Marketing/New Media. We need to get the word out about our organization! We'd like some help from volunteers with experience in writing newsletters, press releases, print journalism and new media (social networking, etc.).
Training. We need to provide our community with education in grassroots organizing and advocacy. A volunteer with experience in educational design and adult learning would be helpful, particularly if they have a background in community organizing.
Community Service Organizing. While we can set up partnerships with local organization, we'll need volunteers who can scout opportunities for community action and service.
Other Opportunities
* Web Site. We need people with experience in building and maintaining web sites. Our site is built using PHP and the Drupal content management system. We're looking for people who are familiar with these systems, as well as those who are willing to learn.
* Member Assistance. Be on the team that helps our members use the website. We get a small but steady stream of questions and simple requests from our members, and we're looking for people that can spend an hour or two a week responding to them.
* Operation Staff Assistant. We're looking for volunteers who can implement policies, keep the calendar, reserve rooms, post events, communicate with team leads, etc.
Graphic Design. Part of making our organization a more professional one will be the materials we create. We need volunteers with the ability to work with the PR and marketing teams to develop written materials; experience with website design would be a bonus.
Event Assistant. Our events coordinators need help in finding classrooms, organizing forums and putting on community events. Prior experience with event planning would be terrific.
Office Assistant. We need folks to staff the office, greet volunteers, answer phones, stock supplies, etc. A few hours a week can really help us reach out.
